[Tiki-devel] Tracker field type URL (external link?)

Bernard Sfez-3
Hello,

Tracker field url (https://doc.tiki.org/URL+Tracker+Field) store and display a link.

Tiki handle External links at tiki-admin.php?page=textarea

External links and images
Cache external pages
Cache external images
External link icon
Add "rel=nofollow" on external links
Open external links in new window

But it seems none are applied if the link come from a tracker field URL.
For exemple, clicking on a link from a tracker field type url will open the target over the page even if "Open external links in new window" is enable.

What will be the right way to fix this:
Having the previous parameters from the control panel textarea ?
Having new parameters within the field type url (like ’target’, rel='', etc) ?

I think it makes sense to have new parameters within the field type. Since everything stored in the same field is likely to share a common purpose, it's up to the tracker designer to know if a particular url field should be "nofollow" or not. Trackers are often used for special purposes which are not reflected in the global wiki syntax configs.

Cheers,
J-M

To have consistent features - when feature says external links should open in new window, it should do on all external links, not just some of them... so I vote for your "Having the previous parameters from the control panel textarea"

Re: [Tiki-devel] Tracker field type URL (external link?)

Bernard Sfez-3
ok :)

So to handle external links from tracker items (field url) we have 3 votes  :)

+1 for textarea (External links and images) pref to be applied

+1 having specific setting pref in the item field options

+1 (I propose) textarea pref applied first + overriding pref in the tracker field

I’m good with both as I like the one rule for all as well as being able to do specific stuff.
Ideally, "general" textarea rules should be applied first with option for override.

Other votes or thoughts ?

Bernard
