[Tiki-devel] Peculiar Structure behaviour Tiki16.2

Geoff - Enmore Services

Hi – further oddities with my recent 16.2 deployment:

When accessing the main Structure admin screen it is supposed to show the required sequence of the pages and the excellent drag ‘n’ drop stuff lets you shuffle them as you require.

What I’m seeing in 16.2 however is that you can still set the sequence as you require and subsequent toc’s etc show the correct sequence BUT when you return to the admin screen the top level pages are displayed in some sort of alphabetical order – even though their actual sequence has not been changed – but this is obviously very, very confusing.

Not yet checked if this occurs in earlier versions

Anyone else seeing this??

Hi Geoff,

My 2 answers:

1/
I use almost exclusively the plugin edit modal to set plugins. It happens to me on 25% the modal modifications are not being applied and not saved. IE: I add a link or change size in the img plugin I save and nothing is changed. If I reopen the modal or check the page source my changes are not applied. I can’t tell what exactly cause this or if there is more like this in 15 or 16, but It happen and then I have to edit manually.

IMPORTANT NOTICE it happens when I use the edit icon from the displayed page (not in edit mode).
If I edit the page, select the plugin form end to end, go to the plugin help, select the plugin (the plugin modal open with the actual setting) edit it and save it work properly.

I just had the case trying to improve the doc page at : https://doc.tiki.org/PluginToc

So maybe you should recheck if your changes were properly saved.

2/
I paid for an addition in the toc plugin that would do 2 things:

An option to show from a certain structure level and not from the top level only.
An option to have the sorting based on A-Z of the top level displayed and not only as they are ordered in the structure.

I asked already for wording and help from our "English specialists" because I agree the wording could be improved.

PS: I just set a new sample at : https://doc.tiki.org/PluginToc#Only_second_level_and_sorted_from_A_to_Z and find out the feature is broken. :(
I post a ticket.

Re: [Tiki-devel] Peculiar Structure behaviour Tiki16.2

Geoff - Enmore Services

Hi Bernard

I think you have misunderstood what I think is the problem - which I do not think is related to the toc plugin

The main structure admin page ie tiki-edit_structure.php?page_ref_id=NN allows you to ‘set’ the sequence of the pages in a Structure – this data is held in a separate table in the database – this table is then used by {toc} to display links etc

The problem I am seeing is that I can set a particular sequence of pages – which is properly saved – and is used by the toc BUT when I return to the structure admin page the display of the sequence has been sorted so that the top level pages are in alphabetical order with caps sequence first and then lower case sequence

I suspect that this is just a display/ presentation thing but it is clearly a completely wrong thing to do since if you want to make an edit you have to re-order everything back to how you wanted it before re-saving

Could someone else confirm that this happening to them in 16.2 since it is happening very consistently for me in both my newly deployed site and my Tiki16 test site.

Thanks

This however look related to a ticket I just posted : https://dev.tiki.org/item6286

Re: [Tiki-devel] Peculiar Structure behaviour Tiki16.2

Geoff - Enmore Services

Not really related - since your ticket is about ‘sorting’ not working properly

The Structure problem I am seeing is that no sorting whatsoever should be being done

Re: [Tiki-devel] Peculiar Structure behaviour Tiki16.2

The ticket show some kind of wrong behavior showing caps sequence first and then lower case sequence on the toc plugin displaying a structure.

You mentioned : "the sequence has been sorted so that the top level pages are in alphabetical order with caps sequence first and then lower case sequence."

Sorry if I still see something related to the way structure are sorted (not necessarily to the plugin toc).

Bernard

Re: [Tiki-devel] Peculiar Structure behaviour Tiki16.2

Geoff - Enmore Services

Hi – just to try and put this one to bed J

Having spent some time digging into the code I now see that of course the {toc} plugin and how structures are edited are closely intertwined because not only must they work off of the same db table but they also use the same library functions ie structlib.php

But the recent upgrades to {toc} which are all quite useful made changes to these underlying ‘shared’ functions which I believe have unintentionally caused the ‘forced’ alpha sorting of the pages in the display from tiki-edit_structure.php - which it absolutely should not do.

But fortunately I think I have found a very simple resolution with what I hope will be a one line commit to tiki-edit_structure.php at line 340

Currently this line is:

$smarty->assign('nodelist', $structlib->get_toc($structure_id, 'asc', false, false, '', 'admin', $page_info['page_ref_id'], 0, 0, 0, ''));

But as a patch I have changed it to:

$smarty->assign('nodelist', $structlib->get_toc($structure_id, 'asc', false, false, '', 'admin', $page_info['page_ref_id'], 0, 0, 'struct', ''));

At first glance this seems to sort things out but I will do more digging/testing and it would be good if others could look at this as well since there may be other consequences of the {toc} upgrade that I have not yet spotted.

I’m aiming to do this simple commit to trunk as well as any backports in the next day or so after more testing - and maybe we’ll even get some SVN notification emails by then!!

PS Bernard – this proposed fix does nothing to the {toc} plugin itself and I don’t really know what is causing your noted bug/problem ticket 6286 - sorry

Thanks

$smarty->assign('nodelist', $structlib->get_toc($structure_id, 'asc', false, false, '', 'admin', $page_info['page_ref_id'], 0, 0, 0, ''));

But as a patch I have changed it to:

$smarty->assign('nodelist', $structlib->get_toc($structure_id, 'asc', false, false, '', 'admin', $page_info['page_ref_id'], 0, 0, 'struct', ''));

Re: [Tiki-devel] Peculiar Structure behaviour Tiki16.2

Geoff - Enmore Services

Just thought I’d say that the quick fix went through in trunk as r61355 earlier today – as we are still not (or least I’m not??) getting any SVN commit notification emails (very irritating!)

Will backport to Tiki15 & 16 later today
