[Tiki-devel] Footnote and pages... but for tracker item

Bernard Sfez-3
Hello,

I set a Tiki to collect information something like a wikipedia.
It was decided from the start to use tracker item for many reasons and one was to be sure there is a kind of template users (non-techi or worst :)) will have to enter a title, description, date, etc.

I also create the timeline to display and sort by date the items.

Items content average is 500 words with pictures and all goes well.

Now we have a "new" kind of document coming in and it is a game changer.
5000 words, several pages and A LOT of footnotes.

Kind of 10 pages document from MS Word.

I don’t see that kind of user setting hyperlink from a field (content) to another (footnote).
I don’t see them being able to check their document from within the text area small view if it is that big.

Before I try alternatives like PDF and Plugin Media within a tracker text area field and things that are more or less safe, I wonder if it is possible to create a kind of hybrid half tracker half wiki ?
Or maybe I can embed/include in a tracker item a corresponding page as document…

Bref… I’m a bit lost and I wonder if someone has a good idea ? :)

Some leads:

To add "wikiness" to a tracker, one of the tracked field types is "wiki page" :
https://doc.tiki.org/Page+selector

To add structured data to a wiki page:

M :-)

Jonny Bradley-4
Isn't there now also a Wiki Page tracker field type too?

Might be worth trying...

Re: [Tiki-devel] Footnote and pages... but for tracker item

Bernard Sfez-3
Thanks you both.

That’s the point, there are really many ways to "marry" wiki page and tracker.

This from the tracker end or from the wiki page end.
I discovered things like (I guess also they could be ways with outputwiki or plugin list + alias)…

It seems endless…

I’ll check your suggestion and may be setting it will worth a doc page. :)

Hi Bernard,

About footnotes:
Tiki does it: https://doc.tiki.org/PluginFootnote
You can see a working example here: http://www.promusa.org/Biological+forecasting+system+for+black+leaf+streak
(they are scientists, they love footnotes)

You just need to set the footnotes in the txt, then they show up magically in the section called {footnotearea}

Cheers,
J-M

Re: [Tiki-devel] Footnote and pages... but for tracker item

Bernard Sfez-3
HI JM,

Thank for the sample!

———

The Tiki I’m setting is for super duper non-techi.

It was decided to go for trackers so we guide them all the way (write title, no more than 100 letters - write date, etc…) so all input look the same and contain the required (fields) information.
In the process, the item status is pending (not displayed) and wait for status change (approval) to be displayed to anonymous or other users.
But it turns out we need both worlds.

I’m testing a 2 step item creation using a tracker with a wiki page field.

- User fill the tracker fields, on save he is redirect to the the wiki page (that need to be created on the fly using the name of the item as pagename - or part of it).
- Once on the page they add the main content (text, illustration and footnotes) and it is saved.
- The display show a wiki page that show both objects. Some options here too: The wiki page with pretty tracker to show the fields above the content; a third page that include both objects…

Important stuff is still waiting to be solved.

- Approval system; Approving different object (tracker item + wiki page) is not ideal, a one step system would have been better.
- Permission so visitors (anon and registered) can see/search and comment the page with the 2 objects (tracker item + wiki page) but not the tracker item or the wiki page alone.

To be continued…
